MK Dons recorded they biggest win since their formation with a convincing 4-2 win over Hartlepool at the National Hockey Stadium.

The visitors had taken the league in the 20th minute through Adam Boyd after Eifion Williams had supplied an inviting ball across the face of goal where Boyd was on hand to slide in his fourth of the season.

Scott Bevan then performed some heroics in the Dons goal to stop Pool from adding to their tally. The keeper first parried Anthony Sweeney's header from close range before then turning Williams' acrobatic shot over the bar.

Izale McLeod then bagged an equaliser for the Dons with a neat header from Gary Smith's cross. McLeod was virtually unchallenged as he rose in the box to head in his sixth goal of the season.

The Dons emerged for the restart and promptly took the lead from Wade Small. The striker found himself in space before unleashing a shot which cannoned in off the bar.

In the 50th minute Smith added a third for the Dons from the penalty spot after Chris Westwood had fouled McLeod in the area. Eight minutes later McLeod then added a fourth a diving header from range.

Both sides were both reduced to ten men when Sweeney and McLeod were sent off.

The two players had previously been booked but continued their disagreement before Sweeney squared up to McLeod with the striker then falling to the floor clutching his face.

Boyd's second goal in the 88th minute offered some slight consolation for Hartlepool.
