Ince Hails Gritty Dons

By PA
Sunday, 7th February 2010
Paul Ince praised a gritty performance from his side after they had to come from behind to win 3-1 at rock-bottom Stockport.

The hosts, who went into the game on the back of a 15-match winless streak, took an early lead through George Donnelly on his first Football League start but he then had a penalty brilliantly saved by Willy Gueret.

The Dons equalised through Jermaine Easter's 17th goal of the season, before Aaron Wilbraham and Andros Townsend pounced to secure a well-deserved win after the break.

"At 2-0 down some people might have thought that it would have been game done, but that's not how I saw it," Dons boss Ince said after the match.

"We created five or six great chances in the first half - some of our misses were abysmal. It's never easy here. We know about the pitch, but this was a grind for us and we ground out a result. That was so important for us.

"Other teams will struggle here. Southampton drew here and Leeds needed two late goals to win. Sometimes you have to play the elements, but we did that and it was a shame we didn't convert some more of our chances. It was a midfield battle, but we won it. I'm really pleased with the three points. Hopefully we can start on a run again now."
