The 22-year-old midfielder has joined until May 31 and can feature in the play-offs should the Dons be involved.
Clayton said: "I'm delighted to be here, the gaffer showed me around the facilities and it's definitely a club that is going somewhere.
"We're playing well, we haven't lost for a good amount of games and coming to a team that is winning is always better.
"Hopefully I can come in and strengthen things and hopefully we can go up."
