The former Sunderland and Leeds United striker joined the club voluntarily on a short term deal three weeks ago when manager Paul Ince had a striker injury crisis but he has failed to impress The Dons coaching staff enough to earn an extended contract.

"Michael Bridges' attitude and the way he has conducted himself over the last three weeks has been tremendous," Dons' assistant boss Karl Robinson has said.

"We had a good look at him, he was more than happy to stay, but we decided that we are extremely strong in that area with the likes of Aaron Wilbraham and Sam Baldock coming back from injury.

"He volunteered his services for three weeks and you very rarely get people in this industry who are willing to do that.

"We'd like to thank him for everything he's done for us and we wish him well."
