The 20-year-old Colombian winger, on a season-long loan from QPR, picked up the injury two weeks ago against Brentford and has since missed three games for Karl Robinson`s men.
MK Dons medical staff will shortly begin rehabilitation with Balanta with the view to him returning to action in April next year.
