The Dons are said to be close to the ability to put a bid in for the spiritual home in two to three months. Safeways have owned the land for some time now, along with disrepute between themselves and the residents of Merton. Safeways were going to build a supermarket, until the resisdents protested, and that idea had to be scrapped. They then decided to build flats, until the residents yet again decided that they did not want this. The general decorum is that the people of Merton do want their football club back. AFC Wimbledon are hoping to place an offer which Safeways will find hard to believe, somewhere in the region of £12 million.
