Hereford and MK Dons emerged from an entertaining encounter reasonably satisfied with the point they had obtained.

The Bulls brought an end to their run of four defeats to take their points tally to 50 for the season, while the Dons are a step closer to at least a place in the play-offs.

A couple of early Dons corners came to nothing before Hereford had the first real opening on 22 minutes.

Midfielder Andy Williams cut in from his position on the right and curled a left-foot drive from 20 yards just over the angle of post and bar.

With the wind becoming increasingly blustery, play switched rapidly from end to end.

Dons' substitute Jude Stirling, who had replaced the injured Jamie Smith, and Jon-Paul McGovern both fired long-range efforts over.

And the conditions nearly assisted Dons come close to taking the lead on 37 minutes.

A shot from McGovern deflected off Williams for a corner. Drissa Diallo's header from Dean Lewington's flag-kick was arrowing into the corner of the net before Luke Webb cleared the ball off the line.

As the interval approached, Hereford's Alan Connell went close with a neat half volley.

Five minutes into the second period, Hereford keeper Wayne Brown pulled off a good reflex stop from McGovern's decent volley.

Brown's opposite number Lee Harper then kept the scores level with an excellent diving save from a Danny Thomas free-kick.

But the save of the match came two minutes later.

Stirling's long throws were a constant menace and, from one of these, Hereford only half-cleared the ball to Keith Andrews whose well-struck volley was heading into the corner of the net before the diving Brown turned the shot away for a corner.

Chances came and went at both ends as the two sides did well to overcome the difficult conditions and bobbly pitch, but neither side was able to find a way through.

The lively Dons' substitute Leon Knight thought that he had earned a late penalty while some probing runs by Hereford's Simon Travis also went unrewarded as the two teams made do with a point a piece.
