Reflection on Saturday

We had the chances , by my reckoning we could and should have been four up by the time city were gifted their equaliser . Izale McLeod scored with the deftest of head touches from a cross by Leon Crooks after only 8 minutes. After that the Dons dominated the first half restricting City to the odd scrambled effort, the referee was well and away the best we had all season, until he failed to give us a free kick in injury time when Matt Baker was impeded when trying to catch a cross that dropped neatly for Leroy Lita to tap in from 5 yards.

Chance after chance was squandered to make the gap three or four nil before the injury time leveller , McLeod missed a couple, skying one out of the ground over The Cowshed roof, Small missed a good chance but the howler was by Lewington clear on goal with only the keeper to beat and fluffed it.

We hadn’t learned any lessons about either putting the ball in the net OR stopping Lita from scoring again, McLeod had two one on ones at the start of the second half and missed them both, he even had a clear volley 10 yards out and put it straight in the keepers hands.

We finally were beaten by Lita who scored his sixth goal against us this season, he must love seeing us as much as we loathe seeing him, all in all we only have ourselves to blame for the result and the fact we are now the favourites to go down, we were six points clear of the drop three games ago and we haven’t won in any of the last three , where Torquay have won all three, its not over quite yet but the fat lady is warming her voice in anticipation of singing us a song.
